Peter Smith - Family Lawyer

About Me

I am a family lawyer. I handle separations, divorces, child custody and access, child support, spousal support, property equalization (division), separation agreeements and other matters.

I do not handle "child protection" matters but I can refer you to experienced colleagues who do. Child protection cases arise when a children's aid society opens an investigation or apprehends a child. The parents may hire a lawyer to seek the return or prevent the removal of the child.

I appear in courts in Toronto, Peel Region (Brampton), Halton Region (Milton), York Region (Newmarket), Durham Region (Oshawa), Simcoe County (Barrie and elswhere) and Dufferin County (Orangeville).

I offer prospective clients a free one-hour consultation in my office or a free twenty-minute consultation over the phone. The reason I offer free consultations is to find new clients so they are only available to people who are considering hiring a lawyer and who live close enough to Toronto for me to handle their case. I need to check for conflicts of interest with everyone who consults me (i.e., to make sure that your spouse has not already consulted another lawyer in our firm) so I will need to record your full name, address and date of birth and the same information about your spouse. This information and anything else you tell me remains confidential whether you hire me or not.
